Good Evening Pack 118!

Just reminding you that tonight is the deadline for reserving a spot in the God and Me & God and Family classes that will be held on Saturday, March 7. The classes will start PROMPTLY at 9:00 am and end very close to 3:00 pm. They will include lunch. The cost for this class is $30.00, which will cover the course materials and lunch.

Pack 118 holds this class every two years, which gives each Cub Scout a chance to earn the God and Me award as a Tiger or Wolf, and earn the God and Family award as a Bear or Webelos. We have two great class leaders lined up for you. Both gentlemen have had boys in our Pack, and one of them was even Cubmaster for three years!

If you have done any research into scouting, you have likely come across the number: 4%. This is the overall percentage of Boy Scouts who make it to the rank of Eagle Scout Thanks to an increased interest in scouting, the National Eagle Scout Association is proud to say that the current annual percentage has risen to 5%. The percentage of boys who earn all four P.R.A.Y. program (God and Country) awards: God and Me; God and Family (in Cub Scouting); God and Church; & God and Life (in Boy Scouting) is even lower! This is a great opportunity for your Cub to become closer to God and to open a dialogue about your beliefs with him.

We have a great group of boys already signed up. Please take a moment to consider signing up your Cub Scout. If you have been thinking about it, but just didn’t get around to it (like I usually do), this is your chance to give your Cub Scout a unique opportunity!

Good Afternoon Pack 118!

Den Meetings –

We will have our regularly scheduled Den Meetings this Tuesday (March 4) starting at 6:30 pm sharp.  Please plan to attend, since we are nearing the end of our Cub Scout year, and each Cub Scout needs to have the requirements for his next rank completed and approved before the May formal Pack meeting.  If your Cub Scout has missed den meetings and you have not spoken with his den leader, please take a moment to do that on Tuesday to ensure that there are no last minute surprises at the end of our year.

Upcoming Calendar –

  • On March 4 and 11, we will have our regular Den Meetings.
  • On March 18, we will have a Formal Pack meeting.  We will have dinner together and then recognize the hard work of our Cub Scouts.
  • On March 25, we will have a Pack Leadership meeting.  All Den and Pack leaders are expected to attend, and all parents are welcome to attend.  During the Pack Leadership meetings, we discuss and plan our upcoming calendar and discuss administrative items related to the pack.

Call for volunteers –
Over the past few weeks, I have been announcing that we have volunteer opportunities available in Pack 118.  Currently we have the following positions open:

  • A second Assistant Cubmaster – this person would assist me in my administrative and Pack 118 activity duties.
  • An assistant Pack Committee Chair – this person would assist Mr. LaFauci in running the “behind the scenes” work of the pack.
  • A Popcorn Committee Chairthis person would assist Mr. LaFauci in organizing the Popcorn Sales Blitz that is Pack 118! The primary responsibilities would be to arrange for and organize the show and sell sites; the pickup and distribution of popcorn; and the pickup and distribution of prizes to the Cub Scouts.  All of this will be done with the assistance of Popcorn Committee members.
  • Popcorn Committee members – these people will assist the Popcorn Committee Chair with his or her duties.

If any of these opportunities sound like something you would be interested in, please contact me or Mr. LaFauci to discuss the positions and ask any questions.  I can say that Pack 118 is a very well run pack and we will set you up for success!

I look forward to seeing each of you at the Den Meeting on Tuesday, and I am excited about the direction in which Pack 118 is moving.

Yours in Scouting,
