Good Evening, Pack 118!!

I am looking forward to our first Den Meetings this Tuesday, September 1, at 6:30 pm.  Please note that we will begin promptly at 6:30 pm!  Please arrive several minutes early to help new families and visitors find our room.  Please prepare your son for our new opening ceremony.  We will recite the Pledge of Allegiance as usual, but the National office of the Boy Scouts of America has decided that all branches of the BSA will now use the Scout Oath and Scout Law.  So instead of reciting the Cub Scout Promise, we will recite the Scout Oath as a Pack at our opening ceremony.  We will have this displayed at the front of the room for everyone’s convenience.

After the opening ceremony, I will go over several important items, as quickly as I can, before you will be dismissed to your Den meetings.  All parents should accompany your boys to the Den meetings.  Your Den Leaders will have a few important items to discuss with you, and you will be signing for your son’s new Handbook.  These have been paid for by Pack 118, and it is yours to keep.  Your son will need to bring it to each meeting.  Please use this handbook to sign off on each achievement.  Since the new Cub Scout requirements are now in place, Pack 118 is discouraging parents from using CubTrails to sign off on achievements.  All achievements will be worked on as a den.  You will be assigned “homework” to work on with your Cub as needed by the requirements and as determined by your Den Leader.

One new thing you will notice this year, is that the opening announcements will be very brief (with the possible exception of the first two meetings).  I will cover most of the information via email, so please make a habit of reading my emails.  You will find that I send out general emails about once a week, with additional emails as reminders of upcoming events.  Ellen Zoutewelle, our interim Committee Chair, will also send out emails as needed with information about trips and other events as needed.  You will also receive emails from your Den Leaders as they see the need.  All told, you may receive three or four emails a week from Pack 118 on a busy week.

We will have Den Meetings on the first two Tuesdays of this month.  They will both begin in the Scout Room.  The third Tuesday, September 15, we will have a Family Get Together in the gym.  We will serve dinner and have some fun.  The fourth Tuesday, September 22, we will have our Pack 118 Committee Meeting, and the fifth Tuesday we will not meet unless your Den Leader sees a need for it.

An evite was sent out for the fall trip to Riverbanks Zoo for September 18-19.  If you did not receive it, please reply to me ASAP.  Please respond to the evite as soon as you can so the Zoo can make the appropriate plans.

I look forward to seeing you on Tuesday, September 1 at 6:30 pm in the scout room!
